English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)
The English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is a school-based committee made up of parents, school staff, and community members who work together to support students who are learning English as a second language. Every school with 21 or more English Language Learners is required to have an active ELAC.
The ELAC's primary purpose is to advise the school principal and staff on programs and services that benefit English Learners. Committee members provide input on important topics including:
- The development of the school's plan for English Learners
- Strategies to improve student attendance
- The school's language acquisition programs
- Ways to promote parent involvement and engagement
Who Can Participate?
All ELAC meetings are open to the public. Every parent and guardian is encouraged and welcome to attend, particularly families of English Language Learners. ELAC meetings are a valuable opportunity to learn about instructional programs, stay informed about student progress, and share ideas for how the school can better support English Learner students and families.
When and Where Are Meetings Held?
ELAC meets four times per year in the Pomo Elementary School library. Meetings begin at 2:15 pm.
Meeting dates are announced each year through the Principal's Monday Message and are posted on the Pomo Elementary School website calendar at the start of the school year. We encourage all families to watch for these announcements and join us whenever possible.
