April Ellis, Principal

April Ellis is a proud product of Lake County, born and raised in the same community she now serves. She attended Konocti Unified School District from kindergarten through twelfth grade, graduating from Lower Lake High School in 1995. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree and teaching credential from California State University, Chico.

In 2001, April returned home to Konocti Unified and began her teaching career right here at Pomo Elementary School — the same school where she now leads. Over the years, she taught every grade level from kindergarten through fifth grade, building a deep understanding of what young learners need to succeed. In 2014, she stepped into school leadership as Assistant Principal at Lower Lake High School, and in 2019, she came back to Pomo as its principal.

April's roots in this community run deep, and so does her dedication to its students, families, and staff. It is her honor — and her passion — to serve the Pomo community every day.

A Message from Principal Ellis

Welcome to Pomo Elementary School! Whether you are returning to our community or joining us for the first time, I am so glad you are here. On behalf of our wonderful staff, students, and families — welcome home.

At Pomo, we are committed to making every school year a meaningful and successful learning experience for your child. This year, our staff is focused on delivering Best First Instruction — ensuring that every student receives high-quality, engaging teaching from the very start. We will continue to build on our Visible Learning practices, which put students at the center of their own growth. When children understand what they are learning, why it matters, and how they are progressing, they become more confident, motivated, and capable learners.

We will also continue our work with the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), a framework we have developed over several years to strengthen our school culture, address student behavior proactively, and increase academic achievement for all students. MTSS allows us to meet each child where they are and provide the right level of support at the right time.

Research consistently shows that children thrive when their families and school work together as a team. I encourage you to stay connected, reach out with questions, and take an active role in your child's education. My door is always open.

I look forward to a wonderful year ahead.
