Student Attendance
Regular attendance is essential to student success—both academically and socially. Our district is committed to working together with families to support consistent, on-time attendance for every student, every day.
Why Attendance Matters
- Student Success: Students who attend school regularly are more likely to succeed academically, build strong relationships, and stay engaged.
- Learning Opportunities: Missing just two days a month adds up to 18+ days a year—equivalent to nearly a full month of lost instruction.
- Early Habits: Developing good attendance habits early helps students stay on track in elementary school, middle school, high school, and beyond.
Daily Attendance Expectations
- School begins promptly. Check with your child’s school start times.
- Students are expected to attend all scheduled school days unless ill or experiencing an excused circumstance.
- Excessive absences or tardiness may result in school intervention and may impact academic progress.
Excused Absences
Under California Education Code, the following are considered excused absences:
- Illness or injury
- Medical, dental, optometric, or chiropractic appointments
- Attending a funeral of an immediate family member
- Quarantine (as directed by health officials)
- Religious or cultural observances (with prior approval)
- Court appearances or legal appointments
- Other justifiable personal reasons (with approval from school administration)
Unexcused Absences
Examples of unexcused absences include:
- Family vacations or trips
- Oversleeping or transportation issues
- Babysitting or caring for siblings
- Non-approved personal activities
Note: Unexcused absences may trigger attendance letters and, if persistent, may lead to a Student Attendance Review Team (SART) or District Attendance Review Team (DART) meeting.

Upcoming Events
Going Out of Town?
If your family has a planned absence, your school may be able to offer a Short-Term Independent Study Agreement to avoid loss of instructional time. Contact the school office at least 3-5 days in advance to discuss options.
Attendance Monitoring and Support
Our district monitors attendance data regularly. Families may receive notices when:
- Absences reach 3 full days (or 3 tardies over 30 minutes)
- Absences are chronic (10% or more of enrolled days)
- There is a pattern of unexcused or unexplained absences
If you're facing barriers to attendance—transportation, health, housing, or other concerns—please reach out. We are here to help!
