Music Program
Music at Obsidian Middle School is more than learning to play an instrument — it's about building confidence, creativity, and community. Whether students are picking up an instrument for the first time or developing a lifelong passion, our program gives every musician a place to grow.
How Students Participate
The music program is an elective open to students in 7th and 8th grade. Students choose to join as part of their course selection, and no prior experience is required. This year, we're proud to have over 80 students participating in the program.
Instruments
Students don't need to purchase or own an instrument to participate. All instruments are provided by the school, so anyone can join regardless of their background or resources.
Performances
Our musicians perform live twice during the school year, giving students the opportunity to share their hard work with family, friends, and the broader community.
This year's upcoming performances:
- Highlands Senior Center
May 21st Our students will bring live music to residents of the Highlands Senior Center for an afternoon performance. - Austin Park Concert
May 29th Join us outdoors for a free public concert at Austin Park. Come celebrate the end of a great year with our student musicians!
Why Music?
Participating in music has been shown to support focus, teamwork, and academic performance. But beyond the research, it's simply one of the most rewarding things a student can do. Our program is a welcoming space for every kind of learner.
