Scholarship Resources

Paying for college doesn't have to rest entirely on your family — scholarships are free money that never needs to be repaid, and there are more opportunities available to Lake County students than you might think. Whether you're planning to attend a four-year university, community college, or a trade or vocational program, there are awards out there designed for students just like you.

The LLHS Counseling Department has compiled a library of local, state, and national scholarship opportunities along with application tips, deadlines, and tools to help you stay organized. Start early, apply often, and don't count yourself out — many scholarships go unclaimed simply because students don't apply.

Quick Tips for Scholarship Success

  • Start early.
Many scholarships open in the fall of senior year — begin researching in your junior year so you're ready.
  • Apply for everything you're eligible for.
Smaller, local awards have less competition. Multiple smaller scholarships can add up quickly.
  • Track your deadlines.
Keep a list of scholarships, required documents, and due dates so nothing slips through the cracks.
  • Tailor each application.
Read the scholarship's mission and connect your personal story to what they value.
  • Ask for help.
Your counselor is available to review essays and write letters of recommendation — don't wait until the last minute!
