Academic Planning
At Lower Lake High School, we believe that success after graduation begins with intentional planning during your high school years. Whether your goal is to attend a four-year university, earn an associate degree at a community college, enter a vocational or trade program, or step directly into the workforce, a solid academic plan is your roadmap to getting there.

What Is the Four-Year Academic Plan?
The LLHS Four-Year Academic Plan is a personalized planning tool that helps you map out your coursework across all four years of high school. Working alongside your counselor, you'll use this plan to:
- Set and track your post-graduation goals
- Ensure you meet all LLHS graduation requirements
- Stay on course for college or career readiness
- Monitor your credit progress each semester
- Plan for electives, enrichment, and summer school opportunities
How Credits Work
At LLHS, each class with a passing grade earns 5 credits per semester (10 credits per year). To graduate, students must earn a total of 280 credits over four years.

|---|---|
| 9th Grade | 70 Credits |
| 10th Grade | 140 Credits |
| 11th Grade | 210 credits |
| 12th Grade (Graduation) | 280 credits |

Required Coursework by Year
Your four-year plan is built around LLHS's course sequence requirements. Here's a general overview of what each year looks like:
- 9th Grade
English, Math, Physical Science, Freshman Foundations/Health, P.E., and Electives - 10th Grade
English, Math, Life Science, World History, P.E., and Electives - 11th Grade

Physical Education & the Physical Fitness Test
All students are required to take P.E. in 9th and 10th grade. Students must pass the Physical Fitness Test (PFT). Enrollment in P.E. II is required until the PFT is passed.
Credit Recovery & Summer School
Falling behind doesn't have to derail your plan. LLHS offers Summer School and Credit Recovery options each year to help students stay on track toward graduation. These options are available at the end of each grade level.
Planning for College
Students who plan to apply to a four-year college or university directly after high school should be aware of the following:
- Minimum GPA requirements apply for admission
- No grade below a C- may be used toward admission in required coursework
- Planning early gives you time to retake courses, strengthen your GPA, and explore honors or advanced coursework
Talk to your counselor as early as possible to make sure your course selections align with the requirements of the colleges or programs you're interested in.
Volunteer Service Hours
Tracking volunteer service hours is part of your four-year plan. Community involvement is valued both by colleges and employers — and it's a meaningful way to contribute to the community around Lower Lake.
Meet with Your Counselor
Your counselor is your partner in academic planning. We encourage all students to schedule a planning meeting — especially at the start of each new school year.
