Attendance & Absences
Regular school attendance is required by law. Consistent attendance helps students stay on track academically, build strong learning habits, and make the most of their education at Lower Lake Elementary.
Report an Absence or Tardy
We're here to help!
Important: Please contact us on the day of the absence or send a note when your child returns to school. This helps us keep accurate records!
Reporting an Absence
When your child is absent for any reason, please notify the school as soon as possible using one of the following options:
- Call and leave a message with the attendance secretary at (707) 994-5787 ext. 2673
- Send a signed note with your child when they return to school
The only legally excusable absences are illness and medical or dental appointments. If the school is not contacted by a parent or guardian, the absence or tardy will be marked as unexcused.
Please Note: An unexcused absence or tardy cannot be changed after the fact if a parent simply forgot to call in or follow up. Unexcused absences and tardies may affect your child's eligibility to participate in certain school activities or functions. Keeping the school informed is the parent's responsibility, and we ask that you stay on top of any attendance or tardy issues as they arise.
Tardies
School begins at 8:15 a.m. Students who arrive after the bell must report to the office to receive a tardy slip before going to class.
Tardiness disrupts the classroom and affects your child's learning. Both parents and students share responsibility for arriving to school on time each day. Students who attend school daily and on time are recognized and rewarded for their punctuality.
Perfect Attendance
Students who maintain perfect attendance for the entire school year are honored with a special reward at the end of the year.
Perfect attendance means zero absences and zero tardies for the full school year. Please be aware that excused absences and excused tardies do count against perfect attendance.
Upcoming Events
Missed Schoolwork
All schoolwork missed due to an absence must be made up. Students are given two days to complete make-up work for each day missed.
If your child is expected to be out for more than three consecutive days due to illness, please contact their teacher to request assignments, provided your child is well enough to work at home. Schoolwork that is not made up may result in a lower grade or an incomplete on the report card.
