Attendance & Absences
Regular school attendance is required by law and essential for your child's academic success. We understand that occasional absences happen, but staying informed and communicating with us helps ensure your child stays on track.
Reporting an Absence
When your child is absent, please notify us by:
- Calling the attendance secretary's voicemail at (707) 998-3387 ext. 2173, or
- Sending a signed note with your child when they return to school
Excused Absences
The only legally excusable absences are for:
- Illness
- Medical appointments
- Dental appointments
Important: If we don't hear from you, the absence or tardy will be marked as "unexcused" and will remain that way. Unexcused absences can prevent students from participating in certain school activities and events that have attendance requirements. Please help us keep accurate records by staying in communication about your child's attendance.
Tardiness
School starts at 8:30 a.m. Students arriving after the bell must report to the office for a tardy slip. Tardiness disrupts classroom learning, so we encourage you to help your child arrive on time each day. Students who consistently arrive on time receive positive reinforcement and rewards.
Making Up Missed Work
All schoolwork missed due to absence must be made up. If your child will be absent for more than three days due to illness and is able to complete work at home, please contact their teacher to arrange for assignments. Students have two days to make up work for each day missed. Incomplete makeup work may result in a lower grade or an incomplete on the report card.
Perfect Attendance
Students who maintain perfect attendance for the entire school year are recognized and rewarded at year-end. Perfect attendance means no absences or tardies—even excused ones count against perfect attendance.
