In anticipation of the upcoming influenza (flu) season here is some information you might want to be aware of:
- Everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine as soon as vaccine is available this fall.
- While flu is unpredictable, it's likely that 2009 H1N1 viruses and regular seasonal viruses will cause illness in the U.S. this flu season.
- The 2010-2011 flu vaccine will protect against three different flu viruses: an H3N2 virus, an influenza B virus and the H1N1 virus that caused so much illness last season.
- Lake County Public Health will return to its pre-pandemic approach to offering vaccine (i.e Public Health won't be receiving the same level of support from the state and federal government to push vaccination in the same way that occurred during 2009-2010).
- Public Health will be offering low-cost vaccination clinics when its supplies arrive. This probably will not be until sometime in November 2010. These clinics will be geared toward vaccinating those people who were unable to access services through their personal health providers. Call 707-263-1090 or visit the Public Health Website at: http://www.co.lake.ca.us/Government/Directory/Public_Health.htm for more information.
